Walking in Their Footsteps

A location-based app that lets visitors explore the Normandy battlefields through stories, narration, and immersive history.

90+ historical locations · 8 languages · Built in Normandy

The Story

"On the morning of June 6th 1944, thousands of young men crossed the English Channel toward the beaches of Normandy. Many never returned home."

Today, visitors walk those same beaches — but many of the stories behind the landscape remain hidden. Normandy is filled with extraordinary history, not only on the famous beaches, but in forests, villages, and quiet country lanes.

Resistance memorials, crash sites, and battlefield positions often pass unnoticed. Even locals sometimes drive past these places without knowing their story.

The number of veterans and first-hand witnesses is rapidly disappearing. If we don't preserve these stories now, they will be lost within a generation.

About the Creator

This project is created by Dave Oldham, a published WWII historian and author of Storming the Shores and Striking the South. Dave is a Guardian of the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer and lives in Normandy, where he regularly walks the battlefields that inspired this app.
